Keeping New Years Resolutions

I've observed many humans making and then failing to keep resolutions. I prefer to set my goals low which basically means that I intend to get more naps, go on longer walks, and bark more often at passing dogs. You may have loftier plans and the following is helpful advice in keeping your resolutions:

Keeping New Years Resolutions
1. Set an Overall Goal – Is it Realistic?
2. Break it down to measurable tasks—GET SPECIFIC…
3. Write it down
i. Write initial goals down
ii. Keep a journal

4. Don’t Go it Alone
i. Tell Other People
ii. Do It With Someone Else
iii. Be Accountable to Someone Else
5. Celebrate Small & Big Successes
6. Substitute…. Don’t Subtract
i. Don’t do these things….Think about these things
ii. Don’t just Watch Less TV – Do Something Else
iii. Use Technology (books on tape, medication, etc.)
7. Utilizing Expertise
i. Read Recommendations
ii. Consult Professionals (Therapist, Trainer, Pastor, etc.)
8. Avoiding Trouble i. Recognizing Triggers (stress, others, etc.)
ii. When we’re weak (tired, etc.)
iii. Bad Influences 9. Anticipate Minor Stumbles to Avoid Major Pitfalls

If you have already have failed to keep your resolution, its still the new year, and you can start your plan up again with a greater chance of success if you use the above guidelines.

Now, I'm going to take a nap.
